can i buy 4 tickets(soft sleeper for 1 berth) just for 3 persons from chengdu to kunming?

If we can get our own berth, we don't need to share with a stranger.  We don't mind to pay the cost of extra seat?   Is it okay to pay extra for keeping our own berth in China?

I used to have the same thought. But it is not guaranteed. Because sometimes there is another passenger who need it and there is just one vacant berth. And it may be treated as the passenger misses the train, and the conductor might sold it to the passenger who need it.
