Can I buy 4 tickets(soft sleeper for 1 berth) just for 3 persons from Chengdu to Kunming?

I used to have the same thought. But it is not guaranteed. Because sometimes there is another passenger who need it and there is just one vacant berth. And it may be treated as the passenger misses the train, and the conductor might sold it to the passenger who need it.
