F Visa with invitation letter from Thailand/Myanmar or Hong Kong

Hi there,

I am a British citizen and have been offered a short term teaching contract in China, I will be on an F and my employer will give me an invitation letter.

I was planning on traveling before I entered to work - so I have a couple of questions before I hassle my potential employer with questions.

1) How long before can you apply for it before entry? (ie. can I apply three months (or more?) before I plan on entry?
2) Is it possible/easy to obtain an F from Myanmar or Thailand?
3) Is a print out of the invitation letter (emailed to me) sufficient or does it have to be an original copy?
4) FINALLY - if I cannot get it from Thailand or Burma I can detour to Hong Kong, is it easy to obtain it from there?

Basically, I just need to know if this is possible before I book my flights. Any info would be greatly appreciated as I am quite confused.

Thanks so much :)
Natalie

ps.

If it is possible to get my visa from my home country before I leave then that would be great - though I will leave on May 10th and plan on entering China on July 10th so that is 2 months... I have read that it is not possible with a gap?

A single entry visa is only valid for 3 months from issue date, so you can apply one or two months prior of entry. It eill not be valid if you apply 3 months before entry.
To apply in a third country is possuble, but it is not the safe way.
A fax, copy or printout of invitation letter is acceptable. Please be note that it can not be an email.
To apply in HK is ok for you, but your invitation letter should be addressed to the Commissioner's Office of China Foreign Affairs in HK SAR.
If you plan to enter in July, you should apply in UK before leaving. The processing takes 4 working days only.

Thanks so much for your response Peter, that helps me alot. I would much prefer getting it in my home country.

So, just to confirm as I have read too much nonsense online and am slightly confused...

If I get mine at the beginning of May in the UK and then enter China on the 5th July (2 months after I obtain it) this is ok? Will I have to extend it once I am in the country or will the time on mine start from when I enter the country? (a 60 day single entry stay) I will have 60 days from entry?

Also, if my employer emails me a copy of the invitation letter and I print it out, is this ok? Just to save time.

thanks so much again. Have a great weekend,
Natalie

Yes, it is ok if you enter two months after you get it. The duration of visa will start from the entry date. The printout of invitation is ok for application.

Hi again,

Just another quick question.

I have recieved my invitation letter but they have put June when I was going to arrive in July

Does it matter if the dates don't match up on arrival? I just want to confirm with you.

I will write June til August on my application though I won't fly in Until July. Or will I have issues on arrival?

Thanks again for all your help,
Natalie

It doesn't matter, after you get the visa, you can enter anytime within its validity.
