Post Yangtze river cruise

After cruising down the river to Yichang I would like to make my way to shanghai. Is there a possibility to fly to shanghai without backtracking to chongqing? If not, is it worth catching public transport all the way to shanghai (for sightseeing and cultural experiences
thanks in advance
