Hi Jack, you need to apply for a Chinese visa in advance.

Roy:

Are you aware of the new 72 hour transit free arrangements for Bejing and Shanghai?

visits of 72 hours otr less don't require Visas. My question is about my departing flight leaving 4-5 hours later than the 72 hours limit.

Will they allow me to use this free arrangement, eventhjough my visit exceed 72 hours, by a few hours.

Thanks

Yes, sure I know it. Your itinerary are not qualified for this free tranist if your stopover is longer than 72 hours. The airline will check your ticket for leaving Shanghai within 72 hours, otherwise, you may get refused to board the plane without valid visa.

I think Roy is right... they will count 72 hours as a theoretical 72 hours between 2 flights, so if you will be able to use this free transit, your friday flight should be scheduled to departure no later than 6:35 A.M. (exactly 72 hours)
