Direct ferry from HKIA to Macau or Ferry from Hongkong Island to Macau?

Hi all. I'm planning to go to Macau via HK, and I've decided to take the ferry. But now it comes down to 2 options:
1) Take the ferry directly from HKIA (SkyPier) to Macau
2) Take bus from HKIA to Macau Ferry Terminal (Sheung Wan) and then ferry from here
According to the updated fares, the 1st option costs 47HKD more, but it will save traveling time. Now, I want to have more time for my activities in Macau (even if it's just 1 hour) so I don't mind paying another extra 47$, but the problem is I've read a lot on the internet that the procedure for option 1 might take longer, not to mention there's only 1 trip every 1 hour. So if the procedure is slow, I might have to wait for a later departure time, which is meaningless because I want to save time.
So, if any of you have had the experience going by ferry directly from HKIA to Macau, could you give me any advice? My plane boards around 1.30pm. Do you think I can make it on the 2pm ferry to Macau?
Because I don't have to clear customs before boarding the ferry right? And I only have carry-on baggage.
