VISA for SHANGHAI for 2 weeks

Hi, I am a US citizen. Looking to travel to Hong Kong and Shanghai for a total of 2 weeks. Is a visa required for travel to Shanghai?

Yes, you need to get a tourist L in advance.
But if you make a transit via Shanghai, you are allowed to stay a max of 72 hours without visa. Read https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/free-72hour/ for the details if you are interested.
