Register

I've heard that you have to register where you are staying (if not at a hotel) when you come to China even if you are only visiting for a short time, is this true? I am staying with a friends but got my visa without any invitation letter, do I need to register where I stay when I arrive?

Yes, you need to register with 24 hours after entry. If you stay with them, you or your friends can do this with their address at the local policce station. Your passport, visa and your firend's local Hukou/residence are required.
