Six month visit to China

I want to stay in China for six months from July this year with my daughter (adopted from China). The paln is to live in Beijing, study Chinese for a month or two and travel. I won't be working while there. How easy are six month tourist visas to get? I want to avoid having to go to HK every 30 days - it is impractical and expensive. Any advice on how to obtain the longer visa is welcome. I have been to China four times - but always for less than a month.

Hi, single entry tourist L visa is generally with 30 days duration, but it can be extended twice in China with 30 days each. But it is impossible to get a single entry with duration of 6 months. The other option for you is to get a multiple entry L, but as you said, you have to exit to HK or Macao and re-enter to activate new duration of stay.
But if you find a school, which can provide invitation letter for study, it is possible for you to get a business F visa with duration of 6 months (for 6-month study if they will like to offer).
