About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

going to China, for the company I work for, on a Business Visa for 2 weeks and want to take my wife.

What is the process for getting her visa and what type should it be? I have never applied for a visa before.

Your wife can apply for a tourist visa L to China. If you have not apply your F for business, you can handle both your applications at the same time, with invitation letter, return ticket and hotel reservation. You can also entrust others to handle this if you can not go in person. The who processing takes 4 working days, and you can request expedited service if necessary.
