Im a Swedish student currently residing in Tasmania, how can I get a VISA for a 6day visit to China?

I am a Swedish medical student currently studying in Launceston, Tasmania. Before I go back to Sweden I would like to do some travelling and my plan was to visit Beijing between the 17-24 of May this year. How would I go about appying for it? Do I have to book an apopointment at the embassy in Melbourne or is it possible to just mail my passport?
