Is it possible to visit the Terraces in one day and then go back to kunming?

I will be in Kunming with a pretty tight schedule but would love to visit this terraces. Is it possible to make a day trip from Kunming and back?

It is impossible to make a day trip to Yuanyang from Kunming and back, since the journey takes about 8 hours and the buses are very limited. If you want to save time, you may take an overnight bus which leaves at around 20:00 from Kunming and arrives in Yuanyang at 7:00 next morning.
