Born 12/16/66, retired military, & looking for 2nd career vs. just a job. Will I succeed in 2013?

Hi, I was born December 16, 1966, I'm retired military and looking for a 2nd career vs. just a job. Is my career thinking the path to success, should I stay in the career fields I know, or find an entirely new carrer field for success? Will wealth come with a new career or current job or at all? Dream is to start own business. Is that a better path to success?
