Jiayuguan attractions

Hi, very nice information here!

I'm planning a trip to go there - should be arriving at May, 14th by around 15:50.
I plan to leave for Zhangye on May, 15th, by train at around 15:30.

I'm thinking about going to Xuanbi Changcheng (Overhanging Great Wall) on the first day (May, 14th), as it is open till 20:00, I believe. Is it worth going there by late afternoon (around 17:00)? Maybe I can pick up a nice sunset to take photographs.

I plan to go by taxi, I read a round-trip is around 50 RMB - is that with the driver waiting for about 60 minutes at the location, so I can take a walk-around?
Or is it better if I go by bus (which one)?

Then on next morning go to the Fort (Pass) and the First Fire Tower, and end this before early afternoon, when I'd go to the train station.

Do you think it is doable in this time frame, from May, 14th 17:00 to May, 15th 14:00?

Best regards,
Rafael

You are right. The Xuanbi Great Wall closes at 20:00 then. Personally, it is worthwhile visiting even at 17:00. As I know, the sunset will happen a little late there. You may catch that to take pictures.

Don't worry! Taxi there is very easy to catch. Comparatively, taxi is more convenient than bus.

Generally, your plan is doable. To ensure everything to go smoothly, I suggest you use taxi as much as possible. By that, you will find that time is enough. Also the taxi fare there is relatively cheap. Take easy!

Kelly,

Thank you very much! Your advice is valuable to me! :)

One last thing: Is it easy to book hotels or hostels in there? I can arrive there and ask for a night easily, or the hotels fill up and is better to book in advance?

At Hotels.com and other search engines, the few hotels that appear on the results return full occupancy for every date I look for.

Best regards,
Rafael

Your travel will be during Chinese High Travel Season. Thus to ensure everything to go well, I suggest you book a hotel in advance.
Hope help!
