Transit permit in China

How to avail a transit permit to the police in China?Will it takes time to apply and where to apply, is it in the airport?How much will it costs?

If you will stay in a hotel, the hotel will help you to do it. If you stay in your friend's house, you need to go to the local police office to register with the transit permit.
You can get a transit permit in the airport and it will not cost.
