About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit Free Stay

I am holding a valid US passport arriving 6 AM in Beijing, then connect with a 2 PM flight same day going to Los Angeles. Please confirm (1) can I leave the Capital Aiport and go into the city to tour a little bit without a VISA; (2) do I have enough time and be realistic without missing the 2 PM connecting flight back to the USA; (3) what short tours you would recommend? Additionally, for the "transit permit", what is the formality? How long does it take to obtain one and does it cost anything? Is there a lot of formality to register with the police station for the transit permit? Do I have enough time to do all these as well as seeing some sights in Beijing?? Please respond. Thank you.

For your questions, here is something I know:
1. Where does your previous flight from? If it is not Los Angeles, you don't need a visa to go out of the airport to tour a little.
2. Theoretically, time is sufficient. Don't worry!
3. For your transit, I suggest you have a short journey by taxi to the well-known Forbidden City. After visiting, you can have a short wondering at Wangujing. Then go to visit Temple of Heaven. After that, you can take a taxi back to the airport.
4. You can find all the formality information on the passage above. If you meet all demand in this passage. No transit permit is needed. You can just leave the airport, showing your valid passport, visa of your destination country and connecting flight ticket.
Generally, if you hurry up, you can certainly catch up your flight. I have to remind you that do arrive at the airport at least 2h ahead of your flight taking off to handle the boarding check things.
