Non-Australian passport applying for China Tourist Visa

Hi, I am holding Malaysian passport with Australian Permanent Resident. I have bought return flight ticket to Malaysia and a separate tour going to China departing from Malaysia and returning to Malaysia before heading back to Australia. Apparently i do need an employment letter in Australia to apply tourist Visa of China, is it correct? If I'm unable to get the letter, is there another alternative? I'm just wondering why is that reuired as long as I have my permanent resident documents and passport. Thank you.

You may change to apply for the visa in Malaysia, then the letter won't be so necessary.

Thanks Jordan, I am not able to go back to Malaysia in time to process the China Visa. Hence will have to apply from Australia. Previously the employment letter wasn't a requirement, but it seems required now, just wondering why are they making it so difficult. If I knew, I wouldn't have op to travel elsewhere

Every country's visa rules are changing from time to time. To my understanding, it's not strange at all.

Hi Jordan,
Would you know the reason for the employment letter? I'm not able to obtain the letter in time, so i'm not sure what I could do as i'm only touring China. I have never been ask any employement letter whenever I enter Australia although I'm a frequent traveller. Thank you.

To my experience, officers in an embassy has the right to refuse an application or ask for additional documents without giving any reason. Please don't dwell on the reason. Try to find soem way to help you out.
