Visit summer palace in winter

Im planning go to beijing on end of January 2013 and visit summer palace. Is it open for tourist? how to get there from dongzimen area?

Yes, it is open during that time.
If you are close to Dongzhimen Subway station, you can go there to take subway line 2 to reach Xizhimen where you can change to line 4 to reach Xiyuan Station. Getting out of the station, you can see the Summer Palace directly.
