In the northern China, for Mar. Apr. and May, it will be during spring, when it is a little cool. When you go for travel during that period, wool jacket, Long John, sweater and thick pants are needed for the northern cities, especially during Mar. While for south part of China, it will be comparatively warm in the three months, with the average temp of around 15C. So you can prepare long-sleeved shirt, light coat and jeans.
For Sep. and Oct. China's northern cities will become cool through hot summer. The average temp then should be around 20C. Shorts, long-sleeved shirt and light coat can be ok then. Comparatively, the cities in south part will still be hot, with the highest temp of around 34C. So summer clothes are suggested then for these places.
Generally, Sep. and Oct. are regarded as the golden travel season in China.
