What are the Tourist Visa Requirements when applying from overseas?

I am travelling through South East Asia and will be staying in Thailand for 3 months before I am scheduled to fly to China. I was wondering what the visa requirements are? Are they the same as if I was applying from Canada or are additional documents required? Thank you in advance for your response.
