Can you please advise if tourist attractions are closed during the holiday period?  Also restaurants?

No, the tourists attractions are open to the public. It is hard to tell you whether the restaurants will close or not. In big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, big restaurants are open. In remote areas, it is hard to say.
