About:Requirements for China Green Card (Permanent Residence Permit)

PR or residence Visa for China

My name is Benson, working in Suzhou with a Z. I just married a Shanghainese girl in November 2012 in Singapore.
I want to know how to apply a PR or residence permit in China. My Z expires in July 2013. I am staying in Shanghai with my wife in her apartment. I want to quit my my job in Suzhou and work in Shanghai. Please advise how to get my residence permit and work in Shanghai.

Hi, you need to get your marriage registrated in Shanghai first. Then, you are able to apply for a residence permit or a family visit visa valid for one year. PR is impossible by now. But if you will work in China, you can simply extend your Z and residence permit anyway.

Dear Sir,
I had went to the immigration to ask about my resident permit. He said I had a Z visa I cant apply for a resident permit. Unless I dont work then I can apply for a family visit pass, But I must not work here. I just resigned my Suzhou job, I want to know how much days I can stay here before I can find my next job . My new job is in Shanghai or Hefei. Please advise. Benson

Have you changed your Z into the temporary residence permit? if you resigned your job, how about your Z visa status now?

My Suzhou issue is expired on Jun 2013. They only took my work permit book to cancel but my z visa is should be valid for another 30 days before my new job valid.

Is that true, Suzhou Official told me.

Yes, it is true. Once you get your new job, you need to apply for residence permit again based on the new working contract. They are right, family visit pass can not be used to work, so if you work in China with valid Z and residence permit(can be renewed), it is not necessary for you to apply for the family visa.

Benson,

Your employer cancel Work permit/Expert license, but your Visa will be valid until 2013 July, dont worry. If you have a new Job, go ahead and Join, they can apply for a new work permit/expert license, it will take some time.

You can extend your Visa with your marriage certificate after its submitted and approved by Marriage Bureau or other respective bureau.

You can either apply for a Z (through your employer) or L1 (Family Visit) with your marriage certificate, yes its not legal to work with Family visit L, but if you have a Job, you can apply for Work Permit (your employer does it), but your visa can remain L1.
