Visa for staying downtown in Beijing for less than 24 hours?

Do we need a visa for staying at a hotel in downtown Beijing for less than 24 hours?

Hi, do you mean to go out for a hotel during transit? if yes, you need to apply for a China transit visa in advance.

Thanks so much Cecil! Yes, we are staying one night at a hotel in Beijing, but flying out again within 24 hours.
So it's not true, that you can do this without a visa? As soon as you leave the airport, you need is transit G then? Thankful for your answer back.

Hi Kerstin, as what the Cecil said above, you can apply for a transit visa, but the other option for you is to apply for a 24-hour stay permit when you arrive at the airport with your passport, flight ticket and possibly the hotel booking. You can confirm this with your airlines if necessary.
