Don't worry! You can certainly find some budget hostels in the destinations you mentioned above. As for the transport, you can go to CF Bus Station to take a direct bus to Xilinhot. Buses for the journey depart at 06:00, 06:20 and 08:20.The bus fare is CNY60-70.
