is it a problem going from a work visa to any other type of visa?

I want to quit my job that I currently have a work visa (Z visa) for.  What is the best type of visa to get and will I have any problems?

If you quit your job in China and have not find a new one, you can only able to get it changed into a tourist L at local PSB. But note that the visa allows 30 days stay and you have to leave China before it expires.
