If the maximum stay on a single entry visa is 30 days within 90, can a single entry visa be extended within China, if so, how do we do it, and where to do it ?

Yes, you may apply for an extension of less than 30 days stay about one week ahead of the original 30 days duration from the local public security bureau, the officers there will tell you how to do it.

A fe minutes' exit to Hk or Macau will be regarded as an exit from mainland China.
