Yes, visa is required. You can apply for a L type for tourism. If you live in Sarawak, Sabah, or Labuanx, you need to submit application to Consulate-General of the PRC in Kuching. Otherwise, you need go to CVASC in Kuala Lumpur. Rugular processing is 4 working days, 58 Ringgit. Air ricket and hotel reservation are both required.

I tried to apply Transit Visa online but it requires address and contact in Shanghai. I don't have one because i just transit for about 13 hours. I will go out from airport just for sightseeing and shopping and i will return back to the airport so no hotel reservation and contact available

I've never heard that you can get a China visa through online application. Kindly advise you read the instructions on this website carefully http://www.visaforchina.org/KUL_EN/
