how much bird's nest (in weight) can I bring into china?

OH! Is it true that I can do that? I'll put some in my checked baggage and are bottled birds nest subjected to taxes?

As I know, there is no strict limit about the weight and amounts of canned bird's nest taken into China; however, if the total value of them exceeds CNY5,000, you have to pay tax. Also I heard they have to be taken in check-in luggage.
