About:Jiankou Great Wall

Getting to Jiankou Great Wall

Plan to visit there in Nov. Should I start at Zhao's Hostel (which is at the foot of the great wall) or take the buses 916 or 936 and get off at the respective places and hop onto the connecting buses? Would the 2 starting points be different? It seems like getting to Zhao's Hostel is at a different bustop as the places for the connecting buses (minibus connection then a taxi).
What would be the frequency of the transfer buses at Yanxi and Huairou first hospital? How long would the journey be from Dongzhimen to Jiankou? Between 916 and 936, which is faster? Just wondering if I would have time for the greatwall if I took the 10am first bus, and try to catch the last bus at 3pm.
Anyone know where to hire a guide locally at Huairou? Would Zhao's hostel have such service?

Hi, you have no need to go to Zhao's Hostel first. You can directly take Bus No.916 at Dongzhimen, get off at Huairou Fangshan (diagonally opposite Huairou First Hospital). There you can find buses to Arrow Nock. The buses run between 10:00 and 15:00. Or take Bus 936 (Branch) at Dongzhimen, get off at Yanxi Huandao in Huairou District. There are buses there to Arrow Nock. The buses run between 10:00 and 15:00. Bus 916 is faster. The bus journey is about 2~2.5 hours from Dongzhimen to Jiankou. You can hire a guide from a reliable local travel service.

Does the buses stop right at Jiankou Great wall or do I have to walk a trail up? Given the short operating time of the buses, it would not be possible to catch the last bus (at 3pm) if I want to hike Jiankoy for 1 day?

I remember the buses just stop at Jiankou Great Wall area. It is about 30km from Huairou downtown area to Jiankou. The duration is estimated to be about 40~60 minutes. Well, usually, it is hard to catch the last bus at 3pm back to Huairou. You can hire a minibus then. The cost may be about CNY60.

Thanks Oliver! From the map I have, Jiankou Great Wall area means the start point that is closer to Zhengbeilou, where the Ox Horn is? So I guess if I want to hike Beijing Knot, Zhao's Hostel would be a closer start point?
Is it easy to just hire a mini bus after the hike at Jiankou or do I have to hire the mini bus for a return trip to make sure I have a transport back? CNY60 is one way?
