Can I (Canadian) living in Trang obtain Tourist Visa in Songkhla to attend a workshop in China?

I'm a Canadian living in Trang, but with out resident permit or work permit. I've been invited to a 3 day workshop in China by the Chinese organizers. Can I apply for a tourist visa at the consulate in Songkhla and how long will it take?

If you have invitation letter from the organizer, and will attend a workshop, you need to apply for a business visa. You can apply from Chinese consulate in Songkhla if you live in Trang.
