Getting a Chinese visa in Delhi

I am a US Citizen. I will be overseas in Philippines, then Nepal, then India, then China. While in India, I would like to get my Chinese visa. I cannot get it beforehand while in the states because I will be overseas for more than 90 days before even going to China. How long does it take to get the visa? I will be flying in to Delhi, but I will be staying Dharamsala. Am I going to need to stay in Delhi a few days to get the visa taken care of, or can it be taken care of immediately (1 day)?
