About:China Tourist Visa

My son age 14 is flying non-reservation. Does he need a paid for ticket?

My son will be staying with his uncle in the Airlines hotel. A non-rev ticket is not printed untill he gets to airport and the flight is confirmed with enough room for the non-rev passenger. We have his passport but does he need a letter of invatation as well?

To apply for a Chinese tourist visa, an invitation letter seems necessary now for American citizens, but the air ticket is not so imprtant.
