Proof of Hukou or Temporary Residence

Hi, my wife's Hukou is in shenyang, but has been living in Nanning, Guangxi for 10 years. She rented an apartment for us in Nanning in December 2011. Can we use the rental lease agreement as proof of temporary residence of more than 6 months or does she require an official temporary residence permit?
