chaozhou to xiamenshantou to xiamen?

Question

l got different answers from several parties about traveling to Xiamen by bus from Chaozhou or Shantou.  Actually, which is more convenient and shorter time to Xiamen, from Chaozhou or from Shantou? Are the buses very frequent from both places to Xiamen? l would like to reach Xiamen by 11am so as to change the fast train to Shanghai.  Do l need to purchase train ticket in advance or l can buy it when l reach Xiamen?

As I know, there are more buses running from Shantou to Xiamen than Chaozhou. You may choose to start from Shantou for Xiamen. However, the bus journey is about 3.5-4 hours and the earliest bus departs at around 8am, thus you may miss the train from Xiamen to Shanghai. I suggest you go to Xiamen the day before leaving for Shanghai. You can buy the train tickets upon arrival at Xiamen.
