The Great Wall of China was not built by a certain kingdom, but several.
As early as the Warring States Periods, wall had begun to be built as a defense against the northern nomadic tribes and other potential enemies. The state of Chu was the first to build a wall, followed by the Qi, Yan, Wei, Zhao and Qin. After that, Han and Ming Dynasties also built some, and the preserved sections nowadays are largely constructed by the Ming Dynasty.
