I heard that the Great Wall constructed in ancient times was to protect the south of the wall from a continued threat of invasion by Hun and other northern nomadic tribes.

in the time of the danasty Qin .the emperor Qishihuang let 300000army to attack XiongNu(the north tribe of the danasty Xia‘s Descendant) and build this wall.And then through ages of building is you can see today's the Great Wall.
