How long in advance I may apply for visa to China?

How long in advance I may apply for visa?I am not sure when excatly I traveling.I will be in Japan starting June next year.Is it better to apply from Canada or from Japan or it has no significance?I want to apply for multientry for up to a year.

For multiple entry visa, it is valid for a year, you should the best to apply in Canada in advance, one or two month earlier before the departure date. Because in Japan, you are required you to apply through a travel agency. It will cost more.
