Yunhe rice terraces: travel and accommodation

Hi!

I have some questions below:

1) How do we go from Shanghai to Yunhe for the rice terraces? Can we book a bus in Shanghai or do we have to go via Hangzhou? How long does the trip take?

2) Where in Yunhe are the "best" rice terraces? Any particular place we should go to?

3) How can we find accommodation in Yunhe? I search Google but I don't find anything... Hostels or hostels?

Thanks a lot!

Hi, I have been there once. You need have to transfer in Lishui.
You can go there from Shanghai directly. There is the direct train from Shanghai to Lishui at about 23:40 at night, so you can take a sleep on the train. The train will arrive at Yunhe in the morning at about 07:30. After that, you can go to the Lishui West Bus Station to take the coach to reach Yunhe County, which will cost you about an hour to reach Yunhe County. After that, you need to take the bus to reach Chongtou Town, where the Yunhe Terrace locates.
Yunhe Terrace is a whole, which is very beautiful for the whole place. If you want to take photos, Wuping Village and Xiayang Village are best places to go.
As for the hotels, I do not think there are good hotel in Yunhe. I lived in Lishui City when I was there. The only train from Lishui to Shanghai is at about 13:40, so you should be careful.

We went to the rice terraces from Jinhua for a daytrip. Very beautiful scenery, however China is already beginning to commercialize some parts of the rice terraces and for seeing the "most famous" spot they charge 80 kuai entrance. Nevertheless it is a huge area, so you don't have to pay the entrance (wast of money, as they already planted some figures in the rice terraces and some other plants with signs describing them), just get off the little bus which transports you up the hills strating from Yunhe wherever you want and enjoy wandering around the rice terraces. I would suggest to spend a whole day up in the mountains, go early in the morning as the last bus back to Yunhe is at 16:30! The bus runs once an hour, always at half past.
You can catch the bus up to rice terracess (9 kuai one way) from the main bus station in Yunhe it says on the frontwindow of the bus in the middle ditian (梯田), so don't hire a driver which would charge more than 200 kuai.
