short term/business visa application procedure and required documents

I am originally from Bangladesh but I have been working here in Japan as a research scientist. I have a permanent residence status but hold the Bangladesh passport. I would like to attend in an international scientific workshop named ICFA HB2012 to be held in the Institute of high energy physics (IHEP), Beijing, China on September 17-21. So, I need a short term visa for say one week. In this case, would you please let me know what kind of documents I need to prepare for the visa application as well as an appropriate visa application form. Thank you.

Hi, Pranab, you need to prepare the following documents to apply a F visa.
1. A valid passport with enough blank pages and a validity of at least 6 months
2. Certificate of alien registration
3. One recently taken, bareheaded, full-faced photo
4. Visa application form(V2011A and V2011B)
5. an invitation letter,from the relevant state departments of the PRC, local government above the level of township, relevant companies, business entities or non-profit governmental organizations
6. Other documents required by the officials

Thanks a lot! I am now asking workshop chair to send me an invitation letter.
By the way, what are the other documents required by the official as Milissa pointed out
in item 6?

This is only my friend's experience that we may share. You can apply to the Embassy of China (Consular/Visa Section) by virtues of you're working there. The letter from IHEP inviting you for the workshop is needed to expedite your application. The application form, Form V2011A and V2011B can either be downloaded from the internet (4 pages) or the Consulate Office or any reliable travel agent. Hope for the best.

For business visa application, maybe you will be asked to provide return ticket and hotel reservation for your trip to China, sometimes, also a bank certificate is required.
