Li River cruise

Hi, We are planning our trip to China for next year and the Li River cruise is a must! We are looking at leaving Guilian and taking the cruise straight down to Yangshou with all of our luggage and then spending a night in Yangshou. Would we be missing out by not getting off the boat and exploring each section?

Any advice you can provide we would be extremely grateful for?
