About:How to Choose China Train Ticket Types?

@G train luggage

As a tourist, we would travel with a larger than carry-on size bag so I understand that we must have the luggage transferred by freight. Does this mean it is transferred on the same train, but as freight, or moved on a freight train? I presume it goes as freight on the same train- if so, any idea of the cost? If by another train, how long would it take for the luggage to arrive?

Hi, I know that passengers can choose to transport checked baggage in the same train they are traveling on or it may be transported in advance. If it is transported in the same train, it can be collected as soon as you reach your destination. If it is transported in advance, the baggage will arrive on a later train. Staff will notify you to come and pick it up after it has arrived. Remember to collect it as soon as possible after being informed, as the station will only keep it for free for three days. Storage fees apply after that time.
As for the price for luggage transportation, it depends on the trip distance and route, normally it is CNY1.5/kg for the trip shorter than 1000km. For more professional advice, you'd better consult the local train station.
