About:Chinese Embassy in Australia

What visas do I need for China and Hong Kong?

I am planning on going to China in July. First, I want to travel around southern China (as a tourist) for 6 weeks. After that, I will study in Hong Kong for one year, being affiliated to a research institute there. In this year, I hope to travel to mainland China every now and then.

Do I need separate visas for Hong Kong and mainland China or just one?
What kind of visas should I apply for?
How long will the visas be valid for?
How much will the visas cost?

By the way, I am a student in Sydney, Australia, but I hold a Dutch passport.

Hi, Mariske.

You have to first apply a HK visa.

For the HK visa, you need to apply at the Chinese Embassy in Sydney. The validity is 3 months and the fee is $ 160 (123 AUD). To remind you, since the embassy need to get approval from the HK goverment,it takes a longer time, usually more than one month.

For the double-entry Chinese L visa, you can apply through the Chinese Visa Service Application Center. The validity is 6 months and the fee is 113 AUD.Regular pick-up time is the fourth working day. To remind you, this double-entry Chinese L visa can only allow you entering mainland China for twice.

Since you want to enter Mainland China more than twice, the best way is to apply through the Office of the Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of P.R.C. in HKASAR when you are in HK.

Good luck!
