About:Requirements for China Green Card (Permanent Residence Permit)

I am a retired Australian of mature age wishing to become engaged and then marry a Chinese lady.

It is my intention to marry and live permanently in China with my new wife. It is most likely that I will study there for 6 months at a college to learn mandarin and then I may or may not start a small business. I have independent financial means.
Is there a category of visa qualification for marital related matters?
What are my best options?

You can enter China with a tourist visa L. Generally, with 30 days stay in China. After you get married in China, you can apply for a family visit visa or a residence permit at local PSB within China. This family visit visa or residence permit will work as a multiple entry that allows you stay in China for one year. And it can be extended before expires. However, permanent residence permit is difficult to get now.

Alvin thank you for your previous response. It was great.

However, I do not intend to get married for a considerable period of time once in China. Maybe 12 months. Your mention of 30 days on a tourist visa seriously impacts upon this intention.

As I may be studying inland I would not relish the need to go to Hong Kong for example for one day every 30 days. I may enter on a student or business visa. The business visa will require me to leave the country and return also. I do not know about the student visa (if such a thing is available but I believe it is).

Do you have any more related comments to update me please.

Regards

Rob

If you will enter China with a Business visa, it is ok. If poossible, one year multiple entry business visa is ok. But if enter with a student visa X, it is the best for you. The student visa can be changed into a residence permit after entry at local PSB, and you are not required to leave during its duration.
