marriage to a Chinese Citizen

I am an American Citizen and want to marry a Chinese Citizen. If we marry in China, can I apply to reside there in China as a resident and if so how long can I stay? If there is a limited time i can stay, can I leave China for a day and then come back in to renew the time period?
THanks
Manny

Even if you marry to a Chinese, you will only be allowed to stay in China for 180 days at most for each entry. However, it's possible for you to be granted by local Entry & Exit Department either a family visit visa that is valid for one year at most or a residence permit that is valid for one or two years after your visa expires.
