NZers travelling through Shanghai for less than one day in transit to Melbourne

We hold NZ passport holders but live in Australia. We will be returning to Melbourne from the United Kingdom in July and have a 12 hour stopover in Shanghai. We intend to leave the airport during that time. Do we need a visa to enter china for less than one day ?

New Zealand passport holders are not required visa if your stopover in Shanghai is less than 48 hours. It is also ok if you want to leave the airport without visa.
