confused about the validity of passport

hi i have a question ,i will be going for higher studies for 3 yrs in china but my passport validity is for 1 yr , will expire in next year june so will there be any problem of getting X visa now or they will ask for renewal of passport now which i think can do that in next year in feb or march as i have still more than 1 yr left to expire ,pls advice me
