Mailing in Visa applications with Passports

I live in Washington State, and am awaiting a letter from a principal in China to work in a middle school to teach English. Is there any way to send my documents through the mail so that I will not need to fly to San Francisco and physically hand in my information to the Chinese Consulate?

The consulate only provides mail return of visa/passport service. If you can not go there in person, you can entrust someone else to submit your application on your behalf. But you need to know that the Visa Office is not responsible for the loss, damage, and delay or mishandling of your passport and documents caused by the delivery services.
