what kind of visa do i need for visiting hong kong for 5 days and travel around china?

Hi, i am an italian citizen and i hold an australian permanent residency, currently living in australia, i'd like to travel in China in June starting from Hong Kong. What visa do i need? One for China and one for Hong Kong? How long does the tourist visa last? Someone told me i can do it in Hong Kong on my arrival. Is that true?

You don't need a visa to enter Hk and stay there for 5 days, but you do have to apply for a vis ato mainland China from the China Embassy or consulate in your living place.

I'm not sure whether you mean the validity or the duration of a China tourist visa. Any way, the validity (entry before) of a visa is usually 3 months from the date of issue, and the duration of a tourist visa is 30 days. it's possible for you to apply for a China visa in Hk, but you'd better do it in Australia ahead of your trip to make sure a smooth trip.
