About:China Transit Visa

Visa and hourly hotel enquiry

Me Indian passport with Australian PR Visa) and my wife (Australian passport holder) are travelling New Delhi to Sydney by China eastern airlines. Our stay at Shanghai is for 9 hours. Three questions"
1. Can we go out and have a 6 hr city sight seeing tour. How much will it cost. Will i need a visa? I understand my wife, being Australian passport holder will not require visa.
2. If we book hourly hotel for 5 hrs, how much will it cost. Will i require visa to stay at this hourly airport hotel.

1. Yes, but you will have to apply for a China transit visa in advance. You are right that your Australian wife don't need a visa for this. If you will just visit the city and won't go to any scenic spot, it won't cost much.
2. No hourly hotel at Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao airport in fact. Thus, you need to book an hourly hotel outside of the airport, then the visa is still necessary for you.

I heard that China also issue 24-hour stay permit at the airport for the convenience of international passengers who transit China for a short period of time but want to visit the city. You may consult your air company about this.
