I think they should purchase the air ticket first, since it is necessary for the China visa application at the China Embassy in Philippines.

Mike,

Not really. What if you get the plane ticket and the visa was not approved? It's a waste of money and time. Getting a visa does not mean you will travel at once. That is only a preparation to travel. :):)

In order to leave enough time to deal with anything unexpected during the China visa application, you are advised to apply for the visa around one month ahead of your trip. For instance, if your visa wasn't approved for the first time, you still have time to re-submit your application.

Hi Mike;
Are you holding a residence-working visa? if yes, just provide an invitation letter (with your company letterhead) notarized at the phil embassy in Shanghai, copy of your working visa, passport copy.. visa application form... thts it.. then later you can purchase the ticket once the visa is released...
