Chinese visa for Portuguese student

Hi, I'm a Portuguese student living in Sendai (Miyagi) for more than a year and I want to visit a Portuguese friend that is studying in China. Since I will get to stay in his dorm, I don't need to book a hotel. What kind of documents/information will I need in this case to apply for the visa?
Is it possible to receive the visa by mail (once I'm living far away from the embassy)?
Thank you

Mail application is not acceptable by China Embassy in Japan. You may apply for the visa by yourself or entrust a travel agency to apply for you.

You need the following documents for the China tourist visa application:
1. truly and completely filled China visa application form V2011A & V2011B
2. Your original passport with more than 6 months validity and adequate blank pages
3. photocopy of the personal information page of your passport
4. a certificate sized photo taken within 6 months
5. Invitation letter from your friend in China enclosed with his valid contacts and address in China and copies of his Chinese residence permit and valid passport
6. your valid visa or entry record to Japan
7. round-trip air ticket
